Legal Notices through ClipShare
For those of you not already aware, ClipShare does allow each publisher to nominate a selection of users to be given the ability to add or edit legal notes against specific articles.
We currently restrict articles whenever we're asked to do so but this feature allows a slightly softer solution where users simply add a correction notice or legal warning which every reader then has to acknowledge before being allowed to view the article text or PDF. Since ClipShare is only available to other publishers you can use this simple tool to correct inaccuracies or simply pass notice of legal concerns without going so far as removing the article entirely.
Hopefully this will be useful to all. Please drop us an e-mail if you'd like to try it out.

Michael
Improving the Interface
After another disgracefully long period of silence on this blog, we're able to provide some good news for the 1,000+ of you now using the interface.
We've been getting some helpful feedback from a number of you and have now compiled a list of tweaks and fixes that should address some of those concerns. If you'd like to suggest any improvements we could make or aspects of the interface that just aren't quite what you're looking for, please send an e-mail to mpocock@nla.co.uk and we'll add them to the list.
Look forward to hearing from you.

ClipShare Feedback
With ClipShare now available free to regionals for their own content, the number of people using the interface is up and we're getting some positive feedback. To share a couple of quotes (I'll add more as they get approved):
"I've been using ClipShare for three months. It's superb and completely knocks spots off our existing system. It is fast and reliable, and the key feature is to be able to see the whole page - and save it as a PDF." - Marc Reeves, Editor, Birmingham Post
"I did log-in to Clipshare and did find it useful as a source of searching regional papers for local links. I used by text form and PDFs, and seeing copy in context, as it appeared in-paper, was of great value." - A regional editor
"ClipShare would help me to do my job because it seems to be a fast and effective tool for research and fact-checking." - David McKay, Sub-Editor, Daily Record

Free Access for Regionals!
NLA ClipShare has been a major step forward for the NLA, is now used widely by national titles, and has made a positive impression on the regional titles that have trialled the service. The NLA December Board meeting decided to provide newspapers that have committed to adding their content to the eClips database with the ClipShare service free of charge for their own titles.
This means that staff at each regional title currently available on the NLA database will be able to access the archive of content for their own titles (including evening and Sundays if applicable.) We're in the process of contacting the relevant people at each title to set this up but do get in touch directly if you're interested.
Once set up with access to their own content, each publisher has the option of subscribing to additional content from the nationals or key regionals.

Version 2!
Following lots of positive suggestions from the growing ClipShare user base, we have recently added some new functions to the NLA ClipShare interface.
- Alerts service
- Monitor the newspapers for mention of specific keywords or track how a story develops and unfolds over time without having to log in and run searches each morning.
- Notification of the relevant stories will be sent direct to your inbox at 7am each morning with links direct through to the corresponding article text, article PDF image or full page image.
- By clicking the “save” button when running a search, you can store any one search and, using the saved search page, flag it to a specific e-mail address.
- Page turner
- Flick through the pages of the newspaper as you would through the original hard copy.
- No need to search for specific articles, no need to jump between PDF and website, just smooth transfer from one page to the next
- Whenever you’re viewing a full page image through ClipShare, you’ll note navigational buttons at the bottom of the page for you to turn to the “previous”, “next”, “first” or “last” pages.
- Legal Notes
- We’ve built in the option for specific users to add notes to articles which will be displayed to every user accessing and article
- This allows for the addition of corrections, legal notes or general commentary.
- The allocation of permission for the adding or editing of notes will be down to the individual publishers.
